1) Dulux has announced that their colour of the year for 2017 is… Denim Drift! A timeless and versatile shade of grey-blue, Denim Drift is set to be the must-have colour for the year ahead. Part of the highly anticipated launch of the Colour Futures 2017 trend forecast, this blue shade has been carefully selected by a global team of experts and is the follow on to 2016’s Colour of the Year - Cherished Gold.
2) Fool-proof fabrics. No matter what your personal style is in your home, whether its modern and chic or cosy country cottage - the general consensus is that people want their homes to be liveable, especially where children and pets are concerned. Across the board, people are making things more functional from stain resistant to non-crushable sofa’s.
3) Dark green. Bring the forest into your home with deep shades of green as a feature wall in your bedroom. We’re seeing less navy and dark blue’s in 2017 and green is taking centre stage. Teamed with rustic furniture and textures fabrics, you can create a real cosy yet still naturalistic feel.
4) Upholstered bedheads. For 2017 we’re seeing a big change with upholstered bedheads set to replace the wooden bed frames currently dominating the market. Often seen in luxury hotel bedrooms, they are now becoming a hot trend to incorporate into your own décor. It’s an easy way to update and add instant glamour to a bedroom.
5) Tribe. At the core of this trend is a changing attitude amongst some women in many different cultures and countries. This change is happening partly because women are more politically influential and represented, more independent and better educated than ever and generally more in control. The Tribe trend is about moving away from the airbrushed perfection of home magazines and embracing a look that is stronger, bolder and less polite. Strong is the new pretty. Think graphic blacks, whites and greys with unapologetic pops of colour.
So, what’s out the door?
Copper and rose gold - If you’ve just kitted out your home with stylish rose gold accessories, you might want to stop reading. “As a material, copper is beautiful and will always be in style in some way or another,” says the Nathan + Jac team.
“However, the oversaturation of cheap and shiny imitation copper just ends up looking like you’ve tried too hard, and by doing so, you’ve already missed the boat.”
Marble - We’ve been seeing a lot of mass-produced marble on the market so expect to see a rapid decline in interest. It’s out with the marble and in with the raw, earthy textures like timber and wicker.
Quote artworks - Keep Calm and… throw out your quote artworks. They have had their day and quite frankly, they have become more cliché than edgy and inspiring.
